Barbara Ann Plowden departed this life for her heavenly home on March 9, 2024. She was born on March 15, 1946, in Washington, D.C., the only daughter to the late William and Annie Timbers.
Barbara was educated in the D.C. Public Schools and a graduate of Margaret Murray Washington High School. Barabara also attended Prince George’s Community College.
Barbara was baptized at Walker Memorial Baptist Church at an early age and continue her fellowship for many years. Barbara was a member of the National Baptist Deacons Association Women’s Auxiliary, and WMBC Pastor Anniversary History committee, she later became a member of Refuge Baptist Assembly located in Beltsville, MD where she served in the nursing home ministry.
Barbara began her Federal Service career as administrative clerk at NASA and later became a certified EEO counselor for Department of Health, Human Services, Indian Affairs for over 35 years. Barbara assisted with the creation of several US legal documents to recognize equitable treaty arrangements for the Sioux Indian Tribe in South and North Dakota. Barbara was awarded the Secretary of HHS for professional excellence in 1989. Barbara retired in 2005.
Barbara was an avid bowler, bingo player and loved R&B music especially concerts at the Capitol Center and Merriweather Post. Her favorite groups were the Whispers and O’Jays.
And is survived by two sons, Glenn D. Plowden (Tracy) and Rodney W. Plowden (Carrie); step-son Raymond D. Plowden, Jr.; two granddaughters Brianna Wilkins and Indyah Plowden; grandson, Michael R Plowden; half-sister Carolyn White; niece Karen Adams (LaVelle); nephew, Harley White; cousin/sister, Pamela Jones (Jeffrey), Amber Jones, and Megan Jones and a host of many other cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
