Brian McKenzie Obituary

BRIAN SIDNEY MCKENZIE, affectionately called “Bruno” by his Dad and “Sidney” by some family members.  Brian was the youngest son of Samuel Sr. and Valencia McKenzie, born at George Washington University Hospital on Tuesday, September 9, 1980 at 11:28 am, weighing in at 8 pounds, 4 ounces and 21 inches long. 

As a young child, Brian enjoyed watching Sesame Street, his favorite characters were Ernie, Big Bird and Kermit the Frog. Brian’s first movie at the movie theater was E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Brian’s favorite dessert was chocolate, he loved Grandma Watkins’ 4-layer chocolate cake and ice cream.  Brian enjoyed going to amusement parks – Kings Dominion and Six Flags.

Brian was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaithersburg as a youth where he attended Sunday School, was active in the Youth Ministry going on mission trips (World Changers) and participated in community service projects.  Brian also sang in the Youth Assemble Choir.

Brian accepted Jesus Christ as Lord on March 21, 1993 and was baptized.

Brian graduated from Poolesville High School in 1996.  He received his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Towson University in 2002.  Brian completed his graduate studies at University of Maryland University College receiving MBA in 2010 and Master of Science, Human Resource Management in 2011.

Brian’s places of employment included: Geico-Senior Rate Analyst, IPREO-Research Analyst and CoStar Group-Senior Research Associate.

Brian enjoyed hanging out with his family and cousins, going to family reunions, cookouts and gatherings for the holidays.  He also enjoyed broadway musical plays, wrestling, scary movies, video games and watching football games with his family, his favorite team was the Washington Redskins.

Brian was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Lee McKenzie, Sr.; grandmother Virginia L. Edwards; grandfathers, William E. Watkins, Johnny L. Hartfield Sr., Melvin L. McKenzie, Sr. and Henry M. Edwards; uncles, Tony E. Watkins, and Johnny L. Hartfield Jr. and Christopher Payton.

Those left behind to cherish Brian’s memories and rejoice in his victory, his mother, Valencia R. McKenzie; brother, Sam McKenzie, Jr.; grandmother, Catherine R. Watkins, Toledo OH; aunties, Patricia (Ann) Wilkerson (James) Clinton, MD, Faye Parks, Oxon Hill MD, Angelique Hartfield, Detroit MI, Sabrina J. Hartfield, Marietta GA, Laureen Henderson, Woodbridge VA, Lisa Payton, Clarkston MI, Kimberly L. Hutchens, Toledo OH and Winnie (Ed) Adams, Toledo OH; uncles: Melvin McKenzie, Hyattsville MD and Thomas (Tommy) McKenzie, Washington DC.,  Theodore (Teddy) Watkins, Toledo OH and Garland (Mary) Watkins, McDonough GA and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
