On Tuesday October 29, Donald “DJ” Phelps Jr. was welcomed into the arms of his Savior. He was a graduate of Riverdale Baptist School in 2016, where he was a member of the Jazz Band and Audio Visual Club, and a co-captain of the track team. He attended the University of Tampa after graduation where he also was a member of the University of Tampa track team.
DJ was very laid back and didn’t desire to be the center of attention. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Two of his favorite pastimes were watching his favorite Netflix shows with his Dad and his sister and playing online video game tournaments with his Lionz Pride Gaming teammates.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Community Church in Damascus, Maryland. DJ participated in the Black History Month and Christmas celebrations at the church. Whenever he was called upon to help out he was ready to serve.
DJ was known for his work ethic, gentle spirit, and sweet smile. He sought to ensure everyone felt included and, ever loyal, if you were fortunate to be called friend, you knew you had a friend for always.
He was the beloved son of Donald Phelps Sr. and Desiree Bryant and the cherished big brother (affectionately known as “Peanut” to her) of Dominique. He was the constant joy to his grandparents, Janie Phelps and Lawrence and Lorretta (Diane) Bryant. He will be missed by Uncles Lawrence (Monte), Marcus and Michael Bryant; his Aunts Christine Bryant and Cindy Lora; God-Parents Shawn and Lynn Foreman; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with friends who also are left to mourn his absence.
His beautiful spirit and smile will always be remembered by all that came across his path.
Fairness does not govern life and death. If it did, no good person would ever die young. Mitch Albom, Author
