Edward Spencer Hyson ”Cutty”, son of the late Christopher and Mary Hyson, departed this life on October 21, 2018 after a long battle with Epilepsy and Parkinson Disease.
Cutty was born on May 19, 1943 at Freedmen's Hospital in Washington DC. He went to Sandy Spring Elementary School in Montgomery County. Cutty's education was halted at an early age when he developed epilepsy (seizures) causing him to be removed from school. At this time, he was raised and cared for my his mother until her health declined in 1989.
Cutty enjoyed hunting, playing sports (especially softball), fishing and playing his guitar. He attended Stewart Chapel Methodist Church and later Good Hope Union United Methodist Church.
Cutty was placed in a home in West Virginia. From there he transferred to the Jubilee Association of Maryland, which placed him in a group home at 14420 Sandy Ridge Road, Silver Spring, Maryland. Cutty worked at the Woodmoor Pastry Shop in Four Corners for approximately 15 years until his retirement.
Cutty loved taking cruises and participated in numerous social functions, such as dances, fishing trips, barbecues, and picnics. His biggest love was eating and he looked forward to spending Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with the family.
Cutty was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Preston Matthews. Cutty is survived by one nephew Ronald Matthews; three great nieces Cynthia Matthews, Lori Gaines, and Kristi Jones and a host of relatives and friends.
