Joyce Juanita Wise

On May 4, 2019, Joyce Juanita Wise suddenly departed this life to go home to be with her heavenly father.  She was born on February 6, 1943 in Howard County, Maryland.  She is preceded in death by her mother Hazel Wise, her father Raymond Wise, and a host of beloved relatives she has gone to join. 

Joyce attended school in Howard County at Harriett Tubman High School, right here in Columbia, Maryland.  There she was a member of the National Honor Society, graduating as Salutatorian of her 1961 graduating class.  Her education continued at Morgan State University, where she attended college.  

Joyce’s administrative career path started with the historical Hecht company before moving on to Blue Cross and Blue Shield for several years.  From there she shifted careers to work in Washington, D.C. for the D.C. Superior Courts in 1973.  From her position as a clerk in Small Claims she was promoted to Supervisor of her department, achieving an award for 33 years of service before her retirement in 2006.  

Joyce loved to travel.  This included trekking from here to the southern tip of Florida, to our northern neighbor in Canada, to several coasts in California along with flying over two oceans to visit Paris, France and Hawaii.  And shopping, yes she loved to shop!

She was a woman always trying to expand her mind as well by being an avid reader of many genres, particularly non-fiction.   

Joyce leaves behind to mourn; her daughter Tiffany J. Wise, her sister Thelma Wise Bernett, brother-in-law Sherman Bernett, Sr., brother Philip Wise, niece Tracye and nephew Sherman Jr.  This includes grand nieces and nephews Sherman III, Kayla Bernett and John Gilbert along with many other loved family members and friends.
