Mark Clinton Saunders, 85 of Potomac Maryland. Born 26 Sept 1933 to the late Mark Sheldrick and Katherine Saunders of Norfolk, Virginia. Distinguished himself while serving in United States Army during the Korean War, after his honorable discharge he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from College of William and Mary. Proudly supported Apollo mission technology development at NASA Wallops Island for the Mercury Landing Module, Emergency Escape System. He continued his government service at NAVSEA as a Contracting Officer for AN/BBQ-5 SONAR for Los Angeles Attack Submarine. After retiring he enjoyed walking on the beach, boating and fishing with family. The thrill of competitive racing at Daytona 24hr, NASCAR and Formula 1 kept his spirit souring. He enjoyed frequent immense laughter that occurred during his story telling and reading the Night Before Christmas to all of his children. He was known to exceed the posted speed limit in his favorite BMW. He had an amazing ability to be a good friend for life. His wife Karen, a wonderful loving woman who, on their first blind date was offered an orange if she wanted to stay, she accepted, they were married and enjoyed years as a loving couple. Karen was his inspiration and made him a better man during their time together. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by Wife Karen Wasik, Sister Marilynn Thompson; children Kathy, Mark and Bambi; Grandchildren Tricia, Brittany, Rachael, Mark, Scott, Briana, Hannah, Great Grandchildren Ariana, Autumn and MJ. Memorial Service will be held 2 Aug, 11am at Grace Community Church, 8200 Old Columbia Rd, Fulton MD.
