Robert Allen Lee affectionately known as "Spo", departed this life on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, DC. He was the son of Frank Gilmore Lee, Sr. and Margaret Estelle Lee. He was born on July 11, 1957 in Montgomery County, Maryland and was the fourth of seven children.
Robert was educated in Montgomery County Public Schools and graduated from Sherwood High School in 1974. He worked as a building service supervisor at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland until his death. Robert loved to work and always kept a job no matter what was going on in his life. Prior to working for NIST, he was employed at Vitro Laboratories in Aspen Hill for approximately ten years; and he also worked at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney and the Safeway Food Store.
Robert loved watching old movies, especially westerns, war movies, and Looney Tunes. He enjoyed sports of all kinds and could tell you stats for any sport, team, or player. He also liked going to cookouts and really liked going to functions with his brother. Robert had a passion for education and loved reading books and his bible. He would even sit and read the newspaper and Webster's Dictionary. Last but not least, the family joke is how Spo always played his lottery numbers and that he would not share them with anyone.
He leaves to cherish his memory his brother: Richard Lee; sisters: Marjorie Cooper, Ruby Evans, Sandy Lee, and Dorothy Grays; his uncles: Clifton Bowie, Charles Bowie and James Jones; aunts: Eleanor Ware, Marie Powell, Mary Lee, Peggy Bowie, May Bowie, and Ruth Bowie; great aunt: Rosie Weaver; brother-in-law: Rodney Cooper, Sr.; sisters-in-law: Delores Lee and Marie Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Frank "Pop" Lee, Sr., his mother Margaret "Dinah" Lee, and his brother Frank "Pee Wee" Lee, Jr.
