Ruth Ragland Obituary

Civil Rights Activist, School Advocate, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grand mother, Ruth A. Ragland (Person) was born on October 10, 1929, and made her debut into the world in St. Louis, Missouri. Her parents, the late Bishop Thomas C. Person and Carrie B. Person, welcomed her, joyously, into their growing loving family. She was next to the youngest of a total of 21 children but was always considered and treated like the baby girl. Her parents were traveling missionaries for the Church of God and saints Of Christ, therefore, her upbringing was grounded and rooted in the church She always had very fond memories of growing up in the company of her two siblings, Esther and Sonny. She had countless amusing stories that still made her laugh out Loud (LOL) whenever she reminisced. Her parents love of the church, inspired St. Ruth at a young age to join the Church of God and Saints of Christ. She was a faithful member who, in her early Years enjoyed her position as a head soprano in the choir. St. Ruth held the office of Charitable Chairman and worked faithfully as a charitable daughter, who like her Mother, had an art for soliciting and providing programs and fundraising events for The edification of the Church. She also loved working with the children in the church. On June 1, 1953, she married the late Bobbie Frank Ragland of Talladega County, Alabama. He was living and working in Washington, DC at the time. This union was blessed with two daughters, Acqueetta ''affectionately known as Suggie" and Valerie. St. Ruth was a stay at home mother who loved taking care of her family. St. Ruth was known to have a great love for her family. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, then blesses being a grandmother of 3 boys. As of 3 years ago, she became the great-grandmother of a baby girl. God saw fit that during her transitioning she was surrounded by all her family. As she took her last breath.

On Sunday, November 24, 2019, St. Ruth was called to glory. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, 2 children: Acqueetta Ragland-Higdon (Carlton Sr.), Valerie Ragland-Bland; 4 grandchildren: Bobby, Carlton, Victor, Taylen; 1 great-grand child, Cali-Jade; and a boost of nieces, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
