Alphonse Joseph Britten, Sr., was born on June 29,1932, at Harlem Hospital in Harlem, New York.
Alphonse graduated from Cooper High School in Harlem, New York. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Army and served until he was honorably discharged in 1953.
Alphonse worked with the New York City Transit Authority before starting a 30-year career with the United States Postal Service in New York and Washington, DC.
Alphonse was affectionately known as “Pa”, “Al”, and “Britt”. At an early age, he was preceded in death by his mother Louise Fresco. He was then raised by his beloved Granny Rose Daniels and Uncle Bertram Fresco.
Alphonse was a young father to six children, Margo, Evelyn, Alphonse, Jr, Paul, Constance, and Richard, with Jacqueline Royal. Alphonse was united in marriage for 40 years with Jennifer Britten and raise his stepchildren Kajia and Kirtis along with of his children.
Alphonse was a provider and rarely complained. If it couldn’t get done with one job, he had two or three when necessary. He continued with that mindset throughout his life.
Alphonse cherished his role as a father first and foremost, setting examples of hard work, respect, loyalty, independence, and integrity. He was mindful of others, their feelings, and understood the assignment of fatherhood from day one.
Alphonse leaves precious memories for his children,26 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, in-laws Marci, Michelle, Johnny, James, Vermel and a host of other relatives and friends.
