Amalia, “Amy”, was the youngest of three born to Juliana Aguilar Yu and Chi Ty Yu in Catanauan Quezon on April 7, 1937. Some of her earliest favorites: volleyball, candies, rose flower, “Kislap” magazine, motto: “Perseverance is the key to success”.
She completed optometry school in Centro Escolar University on March 23, 1959 and received her license to practice on Feb. 22, 1960. She married Wenceslao A. Dumayas on Oct. 2, 1963 and had 4 children: Carmelyn, Grace, William and Joseph. She had an optical shop in Quiapo with Librada Silva while living in the Philippines.
She migrated with her husband in the USA in 1979 and lived in Maryland. She was the hardest working woman we’ve ever known. She would work with Dr. Starr in the morning and Lenscrafters in the evening. In between her shifts, she would cook dinner for Wenceslao. Most of the time, she worked 80-hour weeks, and she loved it.
Some of her earlier favorite activities were crocheting and baking. In 2024, we celebrated her 87th birthday in Willamy Resort. She spent 4 months in Basyaw and loved sitting under the chico tree across from the house and people watch. Some of her favorite sayings are “bawasi”, “pagkulambo na”, “matanda ka rin”, “you’re the man/woman”.
She was preceded in death by her siblings and half siblings, her first born, Carmelyn and by her beloved husband of 51 years, Wenceslao. She is survived by her children: Grace, William, Joe; grandchildren: Ian, Enya, Evan, Julian and Austin; in laws: Terence and Diana; and a host of nieces and nephews. She gained her heavenly wings on January 15, 2025, where she can finally join Wenceslao, her siblings and parents.
