Anna Rose Moten, affectionately known as Annarose, peacefully transitioned on January 10, 2025, in her Rockville, MD home amongst family. She was born on September 29, 1936, at Freedmen's Hospital in Washington, D.C., to Glover Rice and Roseanna Edwards.
Annarose attended public schools in Montgomery County, where she developed a love for athletics. She received an award for her outstanding commitment with children from the National Negro Women’s Council, enjoyed swimming, and bowling. In 1957, she married the love of her life, James Grafton Moten Sr. Together, they shared 33 beautiful years of marriage until his death in 1990. Their union was blessed with five children: Jacqueline, James Jr (deceased), Wenona, Jerome, and Michael.
For over 60 years, Annarose resided at 213 Elizabeth Avenue, where she lovingly raised her family of 5 generations and warmly welcomed members of the Lincoln Park community into her home. Her house was not just a residence; it was a home filled with love, laughter, dancing and connection.
Annarose is survived by four of her children, her beloved grandchildren including: Patricia, Terryl, Shae, Tori, Kenisha, Jamie, Ayron, and Ayriana. She leaves behind a cherished legacy, including her beloved 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. They were a constant source of pride and happiness. Annarose’s kindness, resilience, and boundless love for her family and community will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
