It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my sister, Barbara Jean Sutcliffe, who passed away on 12/31/2024 at the age of 79 due to her 2-year battle with cancer. Bobbie, as she was fondly known, was born on 12/18/1945 in New York to Herbert A. Sutcliffe & Boene T. Sutcliffe She grew up in both East Meadow, New York and College Park, Maryland alongside her brother Herbert A. Sutcliffe Jr., and attended Northwestern Senior High School where she graduated in 1964.
Bobbie worked several jobs throughout her long life, but the most rewarding experience was being an Executive Legal Secretary for an Attorneys firm located in Greenbelt, Md for over 30 years. She not only enjoyed the daily correspondence, but also the friends she established by working in the legal community there.
Bobbie was a loving sister and friend. When she could, she was always willing to lend a helping hand and a listening ear. Her warm personality, love of life, and big heart made her an instant favorite among all who knew her. She had a passion for Hibiscus flowers, writing, Steampunk fashion, music, movies, and especially cats. She raised and showed cats in competition and won several ribbons in doing so.
Being a cat lover, she shared her feline interest with several people and made a lot of friends. Bobbie was an integral member of the online Catster Community, where she belonged to a coterie of cat lovers from across the country — and around the world! Barbara often used her artistic and photo editing skills to create beautiful portraits of her friends’ cats, especially for those whose cats had crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Barbara was a steadfast and devoted mom to her own cats including, over the years, Sampson Silver Dollar, Bailey Gray Cloud, Merlin, Camille Rose, Jasmine Bibette, Max, Isis, Bentley, Orlando “Landy” Blue, and Jocelyn Mae.
Despite facing many challenges in her life, Bobbie remained resilient and persevered through it all. She was a fighter till the end, and her zest for life is inspiration to us all. Bobbie is survived by, her siblings Herbert A. Sutcliffe Jr., Steve Schreiner, Tim Schreiner, Jim Schreiner, and Penny Sutcliffe Stahl, her nieces and nephews Tonya Sutcliffe Burkle, Katrina Sutcliffe Finkle, Dana Stahl, Greta Stahl, and Rory Stahl and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her life will be celebrated in a family & Friends service at Snowden Funeral Home Chapel in Rockville, Md on January 15, 2025, at 11:00am, followed by a burial at Parklawn Memorial Cemetery in Rockville, Md at 2:30pm. We will miss her dearly but take comfort in the fact that she is now in a better place, free from pain and suffering. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
