Brian Rogers Obituary

Brian Daniel Rogers was born in Garden City, Michigan on March 3, 1952. He passed peacefully to be with our Lord on May 7, 2020.

After graduating from high school in 1972, Brian joined the Air Force where he trained to be an airplane mechanic. After honorable discharge from military service in 1976, he went on to pursue higher education. At the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Mathematics Minor in 1980; and a Master of Science in Organic Synthesis in 1981. During his studies, he received Outstanding Senior and Freshman Awards, recognition as an Honors Scholar, and graduated with High Honors.

Brian moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Organic Synthesis and Physical Organic Chemistry in 1987. He conducted Postdoctoral Research at University of Virginia in Charlottesville from 1991 to 1993. During his academic career, he published numerous scientific papers in scientific journals.

During his 26 years as a Chemist at the Food and Drug Administration, Brian was well-liked and respected by his colleagues. He was valued for his expertise and in-depth knowledge of chemistry, manufacturing, and regulatory science. He provided critical guidance to the drug industry and contributed to the approval of many new and generic drugs. He received many awards for his outstanding professional achievements, including FDA Commendable Service Awards, FDA On-the-Spot Awards, CDER Center Director Special Citation, CDER Team Excellence Awards, CDER Special Recognition Awards, CDER Excellence in Communication Awards, and CDER Team Excellence Awards.

Brian touched the hearts of those around him with his kindness and willingness to help. He was a prolific reader and enjoyed watching movies, cooking, auto mechanics, and electronics. Brian loved music, including genres ranging from classical to rock. He was an avid sports enthusiast and a life-long Chicago Bears fan. He adored his Pomeranian dogs Buddy and Foxy, who were always in his company.

Brian loved his family dearly. Brian is survived by his wife Bo Peng; his son Robert Brian Rogers; his daughters Sarah Marie Rogers and Laura Michelle Rogers and his grandchildren Claudia Rogers and Aaron Rogers. He will be greatly missed.
