Cheryl Pleasants Obituary

Cheryl C. Pleasants

On Sunday, March 12, 2023, Cheryl Cooper Pleasants (CC) passed away following a brief illness.  Cheryl was born on May 5, 1944 in Washington DC and pursued a variety of interests throughout her life. She is survived by her father Jerry Cooper, brother Tony Cooper (Karen) cousin, Donna Allen and a host of extended family and friends.

As a graduate of Hampton Institute (University) she was an art teacher early in her career in the public schools of the District of Columbia.   Her love of artistic endeavors also extended to working as a window stylist for Neiman Marcus, the Texas based specialty store located in Chevy Chase, MD.

As the first Director of the East Columbia 50 Plus Center in Howard County, she carried out the mission to provide premier services and support to older persons and persons with disabilities.  Having retired in 2005, her colleagues remember her as a talented, creative, and innovative leader.

CC was an avid reader, most notably the non-fiction historical and science fictional writings of Louis L ‘Amour.  For several decades, she and her family and friends made annual trips to the Barrier Islands known as the Outer Banks, off the coast of North Carolina. CC was also known for her love of dogs, particularly boxers and they frequently accompanied her on her trips.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, The Honorable Julia Cooper Mack, stepfather Clifford Mack, husband Alfred Pleasants, daughter Camille Elise Pleasants and brother Jerry Richard Cooper.
