Reflections of a Blessed Life
Cleveland Sherwood Woodson entered this life on August 22, 1929, in Hadensville, VA. As the youngest of six children, he was a blessing to Joseph “Nat” Woodson and Francis (Coleman) Woodson.
After graduating from Central High School in Irving, VA in 1947, Cleveland enlisted in the United States Army in 1950. He was honorably discharged in 1952, and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953, where he continued serving this country. Cleveland married Hattie (Buckson) Roseborough in 1960.They were blessed with a son, Mitchell S. Woodson, and a daughter, Julie A. Woodson. Cleveland and Hattie raised Mitchell and Julie on various U.S. military installations in many cities of the U.S. until, after 22 years of honorable service, he retired to live in the Washington, D.C. area.
Cleveland worked as a Bookmobile Operator for the Prince Georges County, MD Public Library before ultimately returning to service as a civilian Motor Vehicle Operator for the Department of the Navy. He received numerous awards for being a safe driver. A man of God, Cleveland was a faithful member of Faith Temple No. 2 OFW Baptist Church in Capitol Heights, MD. He served on the Golden Age ministry and the Noon-Day Prayer ministry until he was no longer able to serve due to his failing health.
Cleveland was preceded in death by his father, Nat Woodson; his mother, Francis Woodson; his brother, Linwood Woodson; his sisters, Adele Holland (George); Lucille Simpson (Thomas); and Pauline Waddy (James). Cleveland leaves to cherish his memory his children, Mitchell S. Woodson (Yvette); and Julie A. Woodson, his grandchildren, Darrell Woodson (Jasmine); and Khadijah McIntyre, his great-grandchildren, Angel Bidgell and Dayrheon Hodge, Sr; and his great-great grandson, Dayrheon Hodge, Jr.; his sister, Katherine Carson (Carl); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
