Courtney Holsey Gibbs, a beloved mother, artist, veteran, and community member, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 66 in Rockville, MD.
Born on January 7, 1960, in Olney, MD, and raised in Potomac, MD she was the daughter of the late Lily Elizabeth Holsey (née Cooper) and Herbert Holsey. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Gibbs, and her brother, Herbert Holsey Jr.
She is survived by her son, Colby A. Moore; her brothers Dwight, Richard, Keith, Vaughn, and Randolph Holsey; her sisters Cherie Avery and Viney Holsey; and many nieces, nephews,
relatives, and friends.
Courtney graduated from Winston Churchill High School and attended Bauder Fashion College in Miami. She proudly served in the United States Air Force and later worked for many years
with Montgomery County Public Schools in various roles. A talented folk artist, Courtney exhibited her work throughout the Washington, DC area, including at the Strathmore Mansion, and was featured in local publications such as The Washington Post.
A memorial service celebrating Courtney’s life will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026.
Gathering: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Service: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
