Dan Janis Rondeau, age 87, of Rockville, MD passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024. Dan was born on May 8, 1937, in Detroit, MI to parents Lester and Annie Rondeau. He had seven siblings. After high school, Dan spent four years in the U.S. Air Force with an honorable discharge. Afterwards, he attended business school in Detroit, was employed by the U.S. Postal Service. He met his wife Sarah Louise Wyatt at church and the two were married. Soon after, Dan started a job for the city helping citizens get services. This is where his passion for civil service started. His work there was noticed, and he was encouraged to apply for a federal job. He took a job with the Dept. Of Health, Education and Welfare and moved his family to MD; eventually becoming the Director of the Office of EEO for the US Public Health Service. He continued his education with a master's in legal studies from Antioch University and a Master of Public Administration from American University. When he retired, he was the Director of Civil Rights for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He had a remarkable 30-year career with the Federal government.
Dan was a devoted family man. He and his wife Sarah celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past August. A lover of jazz music, cooking, watching sports, and writing, Dan authored numerous creative, thought-provoking and inspirational books after he retired that were influenced by his career.
Dan is survived by his wife, Sarah Wyatt Rondeau of Rockville, MD and his sister Marcia Rondeau Ransom of FL, his grandchildren, Taylor Bagnall (36) of Ashburn, VA; and Olivia (23), Jacqueline (21) and Donovan (17) Rondeau of Gaithersburg, MD, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his two sons, Don Larance Rondeau and Damon Lamarr Rondeau.
The family will be hosting visitation with a viewing on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Snowden Funeral Home, 246 N. Washington St., Rockville, MD from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Immediately after, a private burial will be held for family and close friends at Parklawn Cemetary, also in Rockville, MD.
