DeAndré Jacob Thomas, Dré as he was commonly called, was born February 3, 2006. The cherished son of Karen Thomas and Dumba Kufuna. DeAndré was such a special gift, as he was the first son of his father, and shared the same birthday with his mother. Dre was a devoted brother to his sisters, Egypt, Kyla and Kalise. The memory of his warmth and his spirit will forever linger in their hearts.
DeAndré was a radiant presence in the lives of all who knew him.
Though his life was short, Dre’s legacy is one of resilience and dedication. He faced many challenges on his journey to adulthood, but triumphed as he graduated from high school. With determination, he embarked on a career as a plumber, successfully completing an apprenticeship and recently receiving a well-deserved promotion. His hard work and ambition were further demonstrated through the business he co-owned with his best friend; a venture that brought them both pride, respect and joy.
As a child, Dre loved to spend time with all of his cousins. He loved to be outside playing basketball, riding bikes, doing crazy flips off the diving board and sharing jokes and laughs amongst them. Their closeness, especially with his cousin Izaih, continued into adulthood - something he took pride in.
DeAndré’s life was enriched by the loving companionship of his girlfriend and their precious furbaby, Nova. He cherished every moment spent with them, finding joy in simple pleasures and the beauty of family life. His love extended beyond his immediate family; he was also a dedicated friend and co-worker, always ready with a big smile and a kind word, ensuring that those he cared for felt valued and supported.
Dre had an extraordinary ability to connect with others, always checking in on his loved ones, and always asking what else he could help with.
He always made sure his mother, grandmother and sisters were very well taken care of - spreading positivity wherever he went. His vibrant spirit and compassionate heart were a beacon of light to those fortunate enough to know him.
His journey though brief, was filled with love, laughter and a profound sense of care for those around him.
Preceded in death by his grandmother, grandfather, his uncle Musole and his dear cousins Eleysia and CJ (whom he loved deeply), DeAndre now joins them in eternal peace. His departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration for all.
As we gather to celebrate DeAndré’s life, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives and honor his legacy by embracing the values he held dear: love, kindness, respect, and the unwavering supportof those we hold close. Rest in peace, Dre. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.
