Dorothy ”Dot” Lucille Carter was born on December 24, 1938, in Rockville, Maryland to the late Alfred and Mattie B. Moore. Dorothy transitioned peacefully on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Frederick Health Hospital. In January 1956 Dorothy married Robert Carter Sr., and from that union four children were born Charles, Gregory, Brenda and Robert Jr.
Dorothy attended Montgomery County Public Schools. She accepted Christ at a young age and joined John Wesley United Methodist Church. Where she learned Christian Principles, and Values which she proudly instilled those beliefs, along with Strong Work Ethic to her four children: Charles, Gregory, Brenda and Robert Jr.
Dorothy worked for 18 years at Holiday Inn as a short order cook and worked at Montgomery County Public Schools for 22 years until she retired in 2004. She possessed many talents, one was Hair Styling for Family and Friends.
Dorothy loved hosting Holiday Dinner’s, Family Cookouts, Dancing, Listening to music by her favorite singers: Al Green and Isaac Hayes. Her favorite past time was going to the Casino in Charlestown, playing Luck Lottery Numbers, and Crocheting. As well as spending time with all of her Grandchildren. She was a Woman of Great Character, Selfless and Generous. She welcomed family and friends into her home with open arms and would give the shirt of her back to anyone in need. She believed in Family Unity and was most fulfilled, when they came to visit her in later years.
She leaves to Cherish memories with her Devoted Children: Gregory (Colleen), Brenda Custis (Steve), Robert Jr (Alexis) and Bonus Son Travis Fisher. 11 Grandchildren: Charles (Jennifer), Latoya (Nate), Jason, Dayna (Sheldon), Greg (Rita), Andrea (Edwin), Stephanie (Arthur), Steven (Kayla), Rico, Nakia, and Aliyah. 10 Great Grandchildren: Taylor, Devon, Trevon, Brooklyn, Carter, Grayson, Nuri, Kros, Karis, and Bella. Her loving Brother Harry Moore (Grace), Sister’s Thelma Twyman, Mida Best (Kenneth)and Melvina Jones (Johnny). Her Aunt Ianthia Gray, and Best Friend/Cousin Patricia Beckwith. As well as a host of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Dorothy will be welcomed into the Gates of Heaven by her Parents, Eldest Son Charles Sr., Loving Companion Robert Sr. Her Brothers Howard, Alfred, Aubrey, Oliver and Lawrence. And her Sister Ernestine Gray.
