Dr. Aaron Tetteh Ahinakwa was born on October 25, 1957, at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana. He was the second of six children born to the late Bernice Sackey and the late John Obli Tetteh Ahinakwa. He was a husband to Mrs. Gladys Tetteh Ahinakwa and father to three children (Amanda, Ebenezer, and Aaron). Growing up in a large, close-knit family instilled in him the values of perseverance, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility which he passed down to his children.
He began his education at Police Depot Junior High School and completed his sixth form at Keta Secondary School (1978-1980), where he excelled academically and socially. Driven by a passion for justice and a commitment to learning, Aaron pursued his legal education at the University of Ghana Law School.
In 1996, he embarked on an international academic journey, traveling to Canada to pursue his master’s degree in law. His thirst for knowledge carried him to the United States, where he continued his studies and achieved remarkable academic success.
Dr. Tetteh-Ahinakwa’s academic accomplishments include:
A Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics Law and Drug Regulatory Affairs from Northeastern University
A Master’s degree in Health Law from Dalhousie University
An MBA in Pharmaceuticals Management from Rutgers University
A Bachelor’s degree in Health Law from the University of Ghana
He worked at several leading companies, including Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Novartis, Shire Pharmaceuticals, and Aspire Pharmaceuticals. In these roles, he helped guide new medicines through clinical trials, submitted official documents for approval to agencies like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and ensured all health and safety standards were met across the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, and beyond.
Dr. Tetteh-Ahinakwa was also a devoted teacher. As a Professor at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., he mentored and inspired the next generation of healthcare and regulatory professionals.
One of the most joyous moments of his life came when he became a citizen of the United States. He called home to Ghana with a voice filled with pride and gratitude, a moment his family remembers with profound fondness.
Dr. Tetteh-Ahinakwa was a man who valued human connection. Whether in his church, his school communities, his neighborhoods, or his professional environments, he built strong bonds rooted in genuine kindness and a desire to help others succeed. His vibrant presence and warm spirit touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Aaron's personal passions included playing long tennis — a skill and love he cultivated while growing up with his siblings. He was an avid soccer enthusiast and an admirer of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, whose resilience and fighting spirit mirrored his own. He believed strongly that his gifts and knowledge were not for self-promotion, but for service — to bless others, to open doors for future generations, and to honor God in all things. Whether he was mentoring young students, advising international health teams, or quietly helping someone in need, Dr. Tetteh-Ahinakwa walked in compassion and wisdom.
He was a devoted husband, father, brother, colleague, and friend — gentle in speech, firm in principle, and joyful in the Lord. His work reached across continents, but he never lost sight of his values: truth, justice, humility, and love. In every achievement, he gave glory to God, knowing that all wisdom comes from above.
Dr. Tetteh-Ahinakwa’s legacy is not only in the medicines he helped bring to the world, but in the lives, he touched with kindness, excellence, and quiet strength. He ran his race with diligence and honor — and now, he rests in the arms of the Lord, having heard the words we all hope to hear:
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
— Matthew 25:23
Throughout his life, Dr. Tetteh-Ahinakwa remained a defender of the defenseless, a tireless learner, and a humble leader. His greatest legacy is not only the remarkable academic and professional heights he achieved but also the fighting spirit and kindness he embodied and passed on to all who knew him. He lived by one of his favorite sayings:
"Because He lives, I can face tomorrow”
Though we mourn his loss deeply, we celebrate a well-lived life, a life that inspired excellence, resilience, and unwavering compassion. Dr. Aaron Tetteh Ahinakwa’s story reminds us that true greatness is measured not only by the heights one reaches but also by the lives one lifts along the way.
His light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who loved him.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
