In Loving Memory of Edward Eugene Lindsey Sr.
June 15, 1962 – May 21, 2026

Edward Eugene Lindsey Sr., affectionately known by family and friends as Ed, Eddie, and “Doc,” passed away on May 21, 2026, in Columbia, Maryland. Born on June 15, 1962, in Omaha, Nebraska, Edward lived a life defined by faith, service, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. For more than four decades, Edward dedicated his life to improving the well-being of individuals and families through mental health and human services. His journey began in 1981 with his first position at the Boys Club, where he discovered his passion for mentoring and supporting young people. What started as a job quickly became his life’s calling.

Throughout his distinguished career, Edward served as a psychiatric counselor, case manager, community service aide, and vocational counselor, working with organizations including Catholic
Charities, community mental health programs, and agencies serving individuals with developmental disabilities. He possessed a rare ability to meet people where they were, offering encouragement, dignity, and practical guidance during some of life’s most difficult moments. His greatest joy was helping others find hope and the resources they needed to succeed.

Edward’s dedication to service extended beyond his civilian career. He proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force, a distinction achieved by few. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1983 and served honorably until 1989, with deployments that included Greece, Japan, Korea, Germany, Hawaii, and Egypt. His commitment to service continued when he reenlisted in the United States Air Force in 1998, serving with the 459th Aeromedical Squadron at Joint Base Andrews until his honorable retirement in 2015.

As a mental health professional and suicide counselor within the military community, Edward devoted himself to caring for those who served our nation. His compassion and understanding provided comfort to countless service members and families facing difficult challenges.

Education was important to Edward, and he earned a Master’s Degree in Health and Human Services from Lincoln University, Pennsylvania. His dedication to youth and community earned him recognition by the United States Air Force in 2001 for his work with the Youth of America. He also founded a reality based therapy initiative known as The Save One Program, designed to help children ages 10 and older avoid drugs and make positive life choices. His commitment to prevention and advocacy included volunteering with The White House Conference for a Drug-Free America and serving as a suicide counselor at Andrews Air Force Base.

Edward was also a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., embracing its principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service throughout his life. His commitment to service was demonstrated with his annual volunteer work with Donations From the Heart run by Robin & Gregory Salmon. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, George Milton Lindsey; grandmother, Mattie Elizabeth Lindsey; grandfather, Jimmy Jones; father and stepmother, Eugene and Minnie “Gigi” Lindsey; mother, Ruth Lee Jones and brother Jimmy Jones. 

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Vivian Lindsey; his children, Brittney Marie Hampton, Elizabeth Ella Lindsey and Edward Eugene Lindsey Jr.; his sisters, Sherri Lindsey and Mary Kay Jones; his brother, Jerry Jones; his grandchildren, Bianca Watson, Brandon Taylor, Bailey Taylor, Brielle Spencer, Bryson Spencer, Donnell Hampton and Darrien Hampton; son-in-law, Donnell Hampton Sr.; his nieces, LaBrea Jones, Wanisha Clements and La Riviera Clements; his nephews, Jerard Jones, Lefarich Lindsey, Lance Lindsey and Toranno Taylor; along with numerous cousins, extended family members, dear friends, fellow veterans, colleagues, and all whose lives were enriched by his kindness and guidance. 

Those who knew Edward will remember his wisdom, his calming presence, his generous spirit, and his ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. Whether wearing the uniform of his country or serving his community, he lived a life of purpose, integrity, and compassion. 

Edward’s legacy is not measured solely by the positions he held or the honors he received, but by the countless lives he changed through his encouragement, mentorship, and unwavering belief in the potential of others. His impact will live on in every life he touched, every person he inspired, and every act of kindness that continues because of his example.

Though his earthly journey has ended, his legacy of service, love, and hope will endure for generations to come. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” May his memory forever be a blessing.
