Ellen Rebecca Grimes

Ellen Rebecca Grimes “Neicey” was born on September 12, 1954 in Washington, D.C. to the late James R. Grimes and late Josephine L. Grimes-Staton.  In 1963 her family moved to Philadelphia, PA where they lived for 2 years.  In 1965, her family relocated to Maryland where Neicey attended Montgomery County Public Schools. 

As a young adult, she worked for the US Postal Service.  Her next place of employment was as a bus driver for MCPS.  Following that she worked as a childcare provider for many years where she provided outstanding care for many, many children.  After devoting many years to taking care of children, Neicey changed from being a childcare provider and became employed as a professional house cleaner.  She worked in this field until she was unable to do so due to health reasons. 

During her adult years, she had a long-term relationship with Mike Plummer and they had 2 kids together Latoya Denise Grimes and Mary Ellen Grimes.      

Neicey was well-known and a very pleasant person.  She made friends easily and would be a true friend forever.  She enjoyed listening to music, dancing, cooking, spending time with family and friends and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

 Although Neicey will be truly missed, we take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and is at peace. 

On Sunday, February 19, 2023 after a short illness, Neicey departed this earth and gained her heavenly wings.  She was preceded in death by her father James R. Grimes; mother, Josephine L. Grimes-Staton; Brothers, James A. “Tony” Grimes, Julian “Brother” Grimes, Michael Grimes, Basil “Mann” Grimes; sister, Deloris Richardson.  She leaves to mourn two daughters, Latoya Denise Grimes and Mary Ellen Grimes; Grandchildren, Lei’La Grimes, Maleeah Grimes, Emyla Grimes; two sisters, Wanda Grimes, Mattie Thomas (Larry), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
