Evelyn Kent Orange Obituary
Evelyn Kent Orange
March 1938 – July 2026
Evelyn Kent Orange died July 19, 2026, in Rockville, Maryland. She was born Evelyn Marie Powers in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in March 1938 to Dorothy and John Weldon Powers. Evelyn was valedictorian of her high school and was one of the few from her school to attend college.
She graduated with a B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1959, married Edward Kent, and moved to Evanston, a suburb of Chicago, where she lived for more than 50 years. Evelyn worked as a real estate broker before returning to NE Illinois University to earn her business degree and becoming a bank examiner for the FDIC, where she had a successful career until her well deserved retirement.
She and her second husband, Robert Orange, spent many happy years with friends and family and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. They loved Evanston, were proud and active supporters of diversity in their community, and volunteered with several community organizations, including Evanston CERT (Community Emergency Response Team).
Evelyn spent the last six years in a Rockville, Maryland, retirement home, closer to her son Ray Kent. She is survived by her brother, Frank Powers; her two children, Ray Kent and Carol Sigman; and her four grandchildren, Terri, Alex, Helen, and Erik.
She was a great supporter of the Salvation Army, for those who wish to make a contribution in her memory. The family is grateful for the love, kindness, and support of all who knew Evelyn, and they extend their heartfelt thanks to those who keep her memory close.
