In Loving Memory of Everald Anthony Richards
Affectionately known as Uncle Tony
Born: December 25, 1957 – Died: May 30, 2025
Today, we remember and celebrate the life of Everald Anthony Richards, a man whose kindness, strength, and unwavering faith left a lasting mark on everyone who had the joy of knowing him. To many, he was known simply as Uncle Tony, but to those closest to him, he was so much more; a pillar of love, a gentle guide, and truly an angel among us.
Everald was born in the Merryland District of St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies, where his journey of service and compassion began. He worked as a plumber in Jamaica before immigrating to the United States in 1978, where he built a life marked by humility, devotion, and hard work. In the U.S., he worked in painting in Silver Spring, Maryland, and later as a housekeeping attendant at Suburban Hospital. Motivated by a deep commitment to caring for others, Everald went on to earn his certification as a nursing assistant, dedicating himself to the work of service both in professional settings and within his community.
Everald was a man of deep faith who didn’t just speak about God, he lived what he believed. His life was a reflection of spiritual conviction and practical wisdom. He wanted others not only to know God, but also to thrive in life. It was common for him to gift Bibles alongside books on financial literacy and investing, offering both spiritual nourishment and tools for empowerment. Even after returning home from a hospital stay, he declared, “I want to renew my life,” a testament to his enduring hope, faith, and desire to keep growing and giving.
His commitment to family was unwavering. Whether making sure the children were well cared for or sending letters and support from afar, Uncle Tony was a steady and dependable presence. His love for his family, especially his sisters and their children, was expressed through consistent acts of kindness, thoughtful advice, and a quiet strength that grounded those around him. He also showed his love through action, frequently bringing groceries in bulk to support those around him, ensuring that no one went without.
He loved to read, travel, and live with purpose. Whether journeying to Israel, visiting the Bahamas, or simply calling to offer a word of encouragement, he did so with care and intentionality. He lived fully, gave generously, and believed deeply.
In his final days, Everald was surrounded by frequent visits from family and friends, who read the Psalms and other scriptures from the bible aloud at his bedside. Ever the encourager, he asked his loved ones to pray not only for him but also for themselves. With calm and clarity, he shared that he was not in pain and gently declared that he was “ready to go home to the Lord.”
Everald leaves behind two beloved sisters and many nieces, nephews, including greats and greatgreats, and extended family members who will continue to honor his legacy with gratitude and love.
Though we mourn his passing, we carry forward his legacy of love, faith, and quiet strength. As a brother, uncle, friend, and faithful servant, his life was a blessing to many and a model of steady devotion.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
