Garland Christmas, Sr. Obituary

Garland L. Christmas, Sr., of Clarksburg Maryland, passed away surrounded by loved ones. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Garland lived a life defined by hard work, love for family, and joy in the simple pleasures that brought him happiness.

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Garland attended Spingarn High School. He carried the lessons of perseverance and discipline into a lifetime of service and dedication in his work and community.

Garland’s career reflected both reliability and care. He retired from Washington Gas and Prince George’s County Public Schools, where he worked as a utility worker, school bus driver, and later a transportation provider for dialysis and other medical needs. His compassion for helping others extended into his role as President and joint owner of DGC Trucking Company, where he ensured countless individuals received the care and assistance they needed.

Outside of work, Garland’s passions kept his life vibrant and full. A die-hard Washington Commanders fan, he rarely missed a chance to cheer for his team. He loved bowling, traveling—especially cruises—and enjoying the excitement of slots and football pools. Garland was a proud member of the Metropolitan Gents and cherished his bowling buddies, often traveling across the nation to participate in tournaments with them and their sister club, the Sassy but Classy Ladies. These friendships became extended family, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and lifelong memories.

Garland leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Clorodet Lane Christmas; his children, Garland L. Christmas, Jr. (Yolanda) and Duane Christmas (Juana); his grandchildren, Delonte M. Christmas (Lilliana) and Bria L. Christmas; and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will continue to honor his legacy.

He will be remembered not only for his dedication and hard work, but for his generosity of spirit, his love for his family, and his ability to find joy whether at a bowling alley, on a cruise ship, or cheering for his beloved Commanders.
