Gene "Keylock" Autrey Keyes Obituary
Gene Autrey Keyes, affectionately known as Keylock, passed away on May 30, 2026, in Rockville, Maryland, at the age of 81.
He was born on March 1, 1945, in Montgomery County, Maryland, and lived a life marked by quiet strength, loyalty, and a deep love for family and fellowship. He was educated in the Montgomery County Public School System in Maryland and carried the values of hard work and perseverance with him throughout his life.
Gene made his living as a truck driver for F.O. Day, a role that reflected his dependable nature and steady work ethic. He took pride in doing his job well and in meeting the responsibilities placed before him. Those who knew him understood that he was a man who valued consistency, honesty, and dedication. His presence brought reassurance to others, and his calm manner left a lasting impression on family, friends, and all who crossed his path.
Outside of work, Gene enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him comfort and joy. He loved watching Western movies and shows, listening to old school R&B music, and cheering for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. These interests were part of what made him who he was, and they gave him many hours of enjoyment over the years. Whether he was listening to familiar songs, following a classic Western, or keeping up with his team, he found happiness in the things he loved most.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, James and Katherine Keyes. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, James “Buck” Leroy Keyes, Joseph Allen Keyes, and Robert Louis Keyes; two sisters, Josephine Francis Keyes and Maude Marie Williams; and three brothers-in-law, Richard A. “Dicky” Frazier, Ruize Waters, and Frank Jackson. Their memories remained an important part of his life, and he carried their love with him always.
He leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Mildred Etta Frazier, Katherine Jane Waters, and Barbara Ann Jackson; one brother-in-law, Richard Curtis Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. His loved ones will remember him for his warm spirit, his steadfast presence, and the many ways he showed care and support throughout his life. His family and friends will continue to hold close the memories they shared with him and the many moments that made him special.
Gene Autrey Keyes will be remembered as a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend whose life reflected love, resilience, and faithfulness. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and his legacy will remain a source of comfort to all who were blessed by his life.
