Georgie Christina McRoy

Georgie Christina McRoy (affectionately called “Christine”) passed away on April 25, 2021 surrounded by family and staff at Manor Care Bethesda.  She was born on April 3, 1931 to Florence and Robert Hebron.  She was the oldest of six siblings.  Two brothers Daniel (Tuck) and Robert (Bobby) and sisters Doris Roberson and Yvonne Hebron preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter Gloria J. Matthews, granddaughter Tira McRoy, daughter-in-law Patricia Twyman-McRoy and son-in-law Melvin Matthews. 

Christine received her education from Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) where she later retired from with many years of service. 

Prior to her illness, Christine was an active and faithful member of Jerusalem-Mt Pleasant United Methodist Church where she served on the United Methodist Women, Usher Board and Kitchen committees. 

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who loved the Lord and her family.  Christine truly enjoyed caring for her loved ones and spending time with the family.  She was an amazing cook and baker who enjoyed cooking for her family.  She was a pleasant, friendly, easy-going person and was known for her heart of gold.  Always full of class and grace, she truly lived her life selflessly, finding joy in putting everyone’s needs before her own.  Every so often she would also reveal her sassy side which was always a treat.  A week prior to her 90th birthday she told us she wanted a man for her birthday.

Christine is survived by her sister Edna Mohoney (Ralph) whom she loved dearly and was always happy when she was able to visit her in Greensboro, North Carolina.  Christine leaves behind her beloved children, James, Daniel, and Cassandra McRoy (Craig); eight grandchildren Chiffon (Tracey), James III, Jackie Lewis (Reginald), Stephanie Holt (Theo), Melvin and Tyrik Matthews (Kevin), Candice Hardy,  Ciara and Donald Smith; twenty-four great grandchildren; eighteen great-great grandchildren; a God granddaughter, Jasmine Simon and host of family and friends.

Christine will be missed and will always be loved by her family, extended family, and friends.
