Our beloved husband, father and grandfather Grigoriy Agapov, 73 years old, of Derwood, Maryland, USA, passed away on January 14th, 2021, after a long valiant battle with cancer. He won that battle once back in 2007 and was cancer-free for 12 years but in 2019 cancer returned and no matter how hard Grigoriy tried, but this time the cancer was stronger.
Grigoriy was born on February 22, 1947, to Konstantin and Evgenia in Port-Athur. After graduating from high school in 1966, he went on to study hydrography at St. Petersburg Naval Academy. In 1972 as a naval engineer specializing in hydrography, he sailed on his first assignment which started his 25-year long career in the Russian Navy.
In 1959 at a noticeably young age, he met his future wife Zoya. When he saw her the first time, he knew right away that she will become his wife. They happily wed ten long years later in 1969, and had two daughters, Olga and Natalya.
After retiring from the Navy in 1992, Grigoriy, 45 years old, still a young man full of life, ventured into small business world during difficult times in Russia.
In 2004 Grigoriy and Zoya decided to try their luck across the Atlantic and immigrated to Maryland, USA. He loved spending time with his grandkids on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean always making them laugh. Grigoriy was deeply passionate about building ship models from scratch always inventing things.
Grigoriy was predeceased by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of 50+ years Zoya, 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren.
