Irene Moore Obituary

Irene Elizabeth Moore, 72 of Laurel, Maryland (MD) passed away peacefully at her home on June 2, 2021. Irene was born in Olney, MD on February 23, 1949, to Elizabeth Lucille Groomes and Ernest Sylvester Miles.  Her mother’s second marriage to Paul Dorsey afforded Irene the blessing of being loved by two fathers.  Irene attended Cooksville Elementary, Lisbon Middle School and graduated from Glenelg High School in 1967, where she was an all-around student and athlete.

Irene married her best friend Carl Douglas Moore on July 19, 1969.  Their union was blessed with a beloved son, Keith Douglas Moore in September 1975.  For over 50 years, they have nurtured a self-proclaimed “wonderful and delightful” marriage and loving home together.

To know Irene was to know her dedication and devotion to her faith and church home. Irene was a member of Daisy United Methodist Church in Woodbine, MD from childhood until the age of fifty-four. After leaving Daisy, Irene became a member of Allen Chapel AME Church in Silver Spring, MD.  After retiring from her thirty-three-year career in corporate accounting with C&P Telephone Company (now Verizon), Irene worked as the office manager for Allen Chapel AME Church.

Irene loved everything about Christmas from decorations, movies, and family time; annual trips with friends to the Williamsburg outlets; and serving as an advocate to the American Cancer Association Relay for Life charity. Irene will be remembered for her joyous laughter and warm heart that was truly a treasure to all who were blessed to know her.

Irene is survived by her husband, Carl Moore; son Keith Moore; three sisters Doris (Harry) Nicolas, Paula Gaither and Beverly Dorsey; sister-in-law Diane Moore; two nephews Paul (Tammy) Blackman and Charles Moore; three nieces Tiffany (Sterling) Barnes, Jacqueline (Larry) Chambers and Kelly Gaither; three uncles Warren Stanton, Charles (Pearl) Moore and Lawrence Stanton; two aunts Peggy Moore and Shirley (Jimmy) Foreman; a very special cousin Dawne Stanton; godchildren Paul Blackman, Stephanie Mobley and Brandon Powell; six great-nieces, two great-nephews and a host of loved cousins, family and friends.  Preceding Irene in death were her parents Elizabeth & Paul Dorsey and Ernest & Elizabeth Miles, brother Elroy Miles, sister Marilyn Dorsey, nephew Michael Moore, great-nephew, Devin Blackman, and maternal and paternal grandparents.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please honor Irene’s memory by making a donation to the American Cancer Society through her memorial Mosaic page. Your donation will directly support efforts to save lives by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer. http://main.acsevents.org/goto/livelovelaughforirene
