Jane Nadine Dorsey Obituary

Jane Nadine Dorsey, affectionately known as Janie, was a loving, kind, independent woman whose life reflected faith, strength, and devotion to the people she cherished most. She was born on February 3, 1951, in Germantown, Maryland, and she peacefully passed away on August 16th, 2026, in Mount Airy, Maryland. Janie lived her life with grace and purpose, and those who knew her will remember a woman who carried warmth in her heart and encouragement in her spirit.

Janie was the beloved daughter of the late James “Ed” and Haddassa Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her late grandmother, Gervaise “GeeGee” Bell, and her late sisters, Jennifer Bernadine Murray and Florence May Smallwood. Her life stood as a reminder that even in the face of hardship, a person can still shine brightly and bless everyone around them.

Janie received her education at Gaithersburg High School, Class of 1969. She went on to serve the community through her work with Montgomery County Government as a Telecommunications Supervisor until she retired. Her work ethic inspired others, and her presence in the workplace was a source of stability and respect.

Above all else, Janie treasured her family. She was the loving mother of Toni Nottingham, and she embraced her role in the family with devotion and pride. She is survived by her siblings, James Jackson, Winifred Beckwith and Edward Jackson, Her Granddaughters, Tasheika Dorsey (Jack) and Cassidy Bell (Tyrique) who she affectionately called “Sheikabeeks” and “CassiCou”; her great grandchildren, Jordyn, Quaide, Kaedrian, and Tyesyn; her nephew and niece Vernon Hackey and Jamey Kinsey; her great-nephew, Kevin Kinsey Jr.; her great-great-nephew, Josiah Kinsey; her god children, Robin Brown and Jamar Nivens, and her best friend of many many years, Marcella. Beyond her immediate family, she was surrounded by a circle of cherished friends who became family, some of which called her “GiGi”. Each of these special relationships was a meaningful part of her journey, and each person carries a piece of her love, her laughter, and her legacy forward.

She found joy in the simple and beautiful things in life. She loved spending time with her family, listening to music, and admiring giraffes, a favorite that reflected her appreciation for the unique and graceful. These interests were more than hobbies, because they were expressions of her spirit. Janie knew how to enjoy life, how to savor meaningful moments, and how to create memories that would live on in the hearts of others. She understood that the richest life is not measured by possessions, but by love shared, lessons given, and lives touched.

Today, we honor Janie not only for the years she lived, but for the way she lived them. She was a woman who made room for others, who gave from the heart, and who reminded everyone around her that love is one of the greatest forces in the world. Her journey on this earth has ended, but her influence continues in the lives of her family, her friends, and all who carry her memory forward. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her loved ones find comfort in the beautiful life she lived and the love she leaves behind.
