Janet Foster Obituary

Janet Marie (Wallace) Austin-Foster, beloved daughter of the late Lawrence Sylvester Wallace and Sarah Rosetta Wallace, was born on April 1, 1948, in Olney, Maryland and transitioned to eternal rest, peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Holy Cross Hospital, Germanton, MD.

Janet gave her life to Christ at an early age.  She was baptized at a young age and later recommitted herself and family to the Lord.

Janet received her education through the Montgomery Country Public School system in Maryland.  She was employed as a dietician and managed the nutritional needs of very fragile patients for nearly 48 years until she retired in 2006.

Janet was a wonderful mother, sister, and friend with the most delightful spirit and had a quick sense of humor.  She was an April Fools’ baby and that may be why she was the best joker and prankster.  She was the third oldest of seven children and provided motherly care to her younger siblings, while her parents worked.  She was an awesome cook and expert baker.  As a youth, Janet oftentimes used every ingredient known to man to create colorful cookies for her brothers and sisters.  Never to be left behind, her brother, Francis joined in on the “cookie caper” and their siblings were the willing and excited beneficiaries!

Janet shared special moments and created lifetime memories with friends and family between Montgomery County, Maryland and Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Janet’s favorite hobbies were cooking and feeding all who came to her home for a visit, participating in community team softball, dancing, and listening to oldies but goodies (60-70’s), country music and reggae.

She was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, and never missed a game or an opportunity to talk smack with any and every fan from other teams.  She could not be convinced that there was any team better than her Dallas, Cowboys!

Janet was a loving person who dedicated her life to not only raising her children and grandchildren but also collected children and adults along the way who lovingly referred to her as “mom or grandma.”  She lived her life with the full understanding that it took a village.  Janet was loved and revered and was a positive force in all their lives.

Through her marital union to Willie Kenneth Austin, she raised five children.  She was proceeded in death by her oldest daughter, Renee D. Wallace, and leaves behind to cherish her memories:  three sons:  Anthony V. Austin (Sherri), Kenneth E. Austin (Virda), Philip M. Austin (Martina) a daughter, Sonya E. Dickerson, and stepdaughter, Akilah Foster (daughter of Frank Foster).  Grandchildren: Antonio, Tiffany, Tonishea, Andrew, Andrea, Asia, Joshua, Devante, Daquan, Donavan, Dawntavia. Walter Lee, Walter Quincy, Jacob, Elijah, Ayanah-Marie, and adopted grandchildren, Jessica, Mark, Antonio, Whitney, Khadijah, Secoyia, Laneka, and Lexii.

She also leaves behind to treasure a lifetime of memories, sisters:  Margaret A. Johnson, Eleanor E. Wallace (Richard), Elsie B. Yeoman and Evelyn V. Reid; brothers:  Lawrence S. Wallace (Silvia) and Francis E. Wallace (Laura), as well as a host of great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
