Jared Cannon Obituary

Jared Anthony Cannon, a loving son, brother, grandson, cousin and, above all, father, passed away on January 13, 2021, in Hagerstown, MD. The cause was pneumonia and a bacterial bronchial infection. He was 24.

Jared Cannon was born March 26, 1996, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville to Sheila Rowley and Leo Cannon III. He grew up in Rockville and moved to Hagerstown in the last two years of his life. He attended Montgomery County Public Schools from kindergarten through high school. As a boy, he loved Sesame Street, Power Rangers, Space Jam, Japanese anime and, always, sports. He was a gifted multi-sport athlete in baseball, basketball and football. He started at the age of four on a T-ball team coached by his beloved maternal grandmother, Jessie Rinehart. As a boy, his basketball team won a Rockville youth league championship. He was a scorer and a fierce defender. He played on Rockville Baseball Association teams for several years into his teens. He also was a linebacker, No. 52, on the Rockville Rams JV team. His love of sports carried over to his intense devotion to all teams Philadelphia -- foremost the Eagles, then the Phillies and 76ers. He was never happier than when the Eagles won a Super Bowl title.

After leaving school, he worked in a variety of jobs and found his love of hard work and the outdoors combined as a landscaping worker. He showed his skill equally at million-dollar homes and his grandparents' gardens. He had a legion of devoted friends, and he was devout in his faith, believing that God meant him to help people and make them happy. At both of those things, he succeeded in full measure. He had a heart of gold, a magnetic personality and a sense of humor that could light up a room.

It was as a father that he found his greatest love and greatest impact. He was devoted to his daughter, Jaiana, and she to him. He gave her all the time he could and all of his heart. He lives on in her.

Jared is survived by his parents, Leo Cannon III and Sheila Rowley; his daughter, Jaiana Marie; step-parents Phillip M. Hill and Samantha Cannon; his maternal grandparents, Vince and Jessie Rinehart, his paternal grandparents Leo Cannon Jr. and Madeline Cannon; his siblings, Leo Cannon IV, Jamaal Cannon and Ashley Cannon, and a great many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
