Jeffrey Neal, Jr., of Gaithersburg, Maryland, at the miraculous age of 91, entered into eternal life on June 30, 2021, at Shady Grove Hospital. Jeffrey, known to many as “Blue,” was born to the late Jeffrey and Roberta Neal on July 26, 1929, in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and attended Emory Grove United Methodist Church. “Blue” was married to the late Sarah Olivia Neal, and was a dedicated husband and father whose passion was spending time with his family eating, laughing, and telling jokes, sometimes until everyone was laughing in tears. He often played ball and watched movies with his children and their friends, and he looked forward to having the grandchildren help prepare Sunday dinner as his sous-chefs. He was a devoted baseball and football fan who watched the Minnesota Twins (formerly the Washington Senators) and the Washington Football Team. As an avid history buff who read the Washington Post from cover to cover on Sundays, he would often debate dates and facts during family gatherings with his children and was victorious most of the time when he challenged them. And, if you ever came to visit with him and Mama, you will remember his favorite pastime of standing at the dining room table playing solitaire.
Blue was educated in Montgomery County Public Schools and proudly served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He was employed by Bryant Feed Mill in Old Town Gaithersburg, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, and part time at several churches. His last employment was with Montgomery County Public Schools from where he retired after 34 years of service.
Everyone loved “Blue” who had a chance to meet and spend time with him. He was always a good friend to many and whenever anyone needed to be picked up to go to the grocery store or the doctor’s, you could depend on him to come and get you. He was one of the first Uber drivers.
Jeffrey (Blue) leaves seven children to cherish his memory: Bernice Brown, Brenda Webb, William Neal (Wanda), Charles Duvall (Dolores), Howard Dent (Sandra), Ronnie Dent (Debra) and Roberta Dent Littlejohn; eleven grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Bernice Washington, one sister-in-law, Ethel Wims; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Olivia Neal, his son, Jeffrey Neal Frazier, and his siblings, Alfred, William, Norman, Leroy, Clifton and Emma.
