Jerry Noland Obituary

Jerry Matthew Noland known to his family and friends as “Jerbo”, departed this life on May 23, 2023 at King County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He was born on October 27, 1954, to the late James “Mack” Noland and Irene Noland.

Jerry was raised in Montgomery County, Maryland and was educated in the Montgomery County Public School System. He later moved to New York where he lived until his death.

Jerry accepted Christ at the Word of God Baptist Church in Washington, DC. He was also a member of a male community choir at Community Assembly Church. His favorite hymn was “Encourage My Soul”.

On February 13, 1977, Jerry married the late Deliria “Tweedy” Jackson. From this union they had three children: Jermaine, Akaila, and Brandon.

Throughout the years, he worked for various landscaping companies and nurseries. He enjoyed doing “yard work” and driving trucks.

Jerry loved listening to music, especially “oldies but goodies”.  He was a good dancer and tried to out dance anyone who was willing to get on the dance floor.

In his earlier years, Jerry was very athletic and liked participating in sports. He played baseball, basketball, and football. His favorite sport was boxing. He trained at the Sugar Ray Leonard Gym and wanted to be just like Sugar Ray. Part of his fitness training was to run from Gaithersburg to Rockville and then run back.

Jerry was one of the original members of the Out-To-Lunch-Bunch social club that was established approximately 45 years ago.  This club held benefits and sporting events that supported the local communities.  Of this longstanding organization, Jerry is only the second member of the group to go home to be with the Lord.

Jerry took pride in the way he dressed and always included a hat to complete his outfit. He made long-lasting friendships wherever he went. He was a big jokester and would keep everyone laughing. His presence is going to be truly missed by all who knew him.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory his mother: Irene Noland; his children: Sherion Demar, Jermaine Jackson, Akaila Hill, Brandon Noland, and Dontrell Chase; four sisters: Delores Lee, Irene Dorsey (Floyd), Dianna Bailey (Larry), and Vicky Noland; mother-in-law: Beatrice Jackson, son-in-law: Derrick Hill; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; one aunt: Henrietta Budd; his grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Deliria Noland, father James Noland, and sister Betty Ann Noland Lynn.
