Joan Balon

Our beloved mother, Joan Marcia Balon, age 93, passed away peacefully in Rockville, Maryland on January 23rd after a long and well lived life. She was born on February 17, 1931 in New Jersey to Manuel and Mae Rovins. She spent most of her life in New Jersey and was a proud graduate of Highland Park High School.  

Joan was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Morton Balon. The family moved often, residing at various times in Highland Park, Edison, Livingston, and Metuchen in New Jersey; and Highland Park, Buffalo Grove, Chicago and Lombard in Illinois. Joan worked many years as a bookkeeper. Joan was a gourmet cook who loved entertaining. Together with her husband, Joan enjoyed attending theatre, opera and ballet.

She is survived by her children Leonard Balon (Robin) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ronni Markwell (Kenneth) of Lombard, Illinois and Linda Balon Stein (Michael) of Gaithersburg, Maryland; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and her sister Ruby Zack of Edison, New Jersey. Joan will be dearly missed and always remembered. 

Shiva will be observed on January 27, 2025, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Stein residence in Gaithersburg, Maryland. We do appreciate your love and support during this difficult time.
