Joan Elizabeth Crawford Hill was born in Beaver Falls, PA on July 18, 1940, the fourth child of Calvin and Ada Crawford. She graduated from Beaver Falls High Area School, and later followed her oldest sister, Emma Louise Crawford Bright to Wilmington, Delaware to live and work there for several years.
On May 31, 1969 she entered into holy matrimony with James Edward Hill of New Castle, PA., a marriage which stood the test of time for fifty-one blessed years. That marriage led her into the Silver Springs, MD area where she would spend the remainder of her joyous life. The union brought forth their only child, James Earle Hill (Jamie) who departed this life in October, 2019.
Joan enjoyed being a stay- at- home mom, and after Jamie left to enroll and reside in the Benedictine School, Joan became employed with Montgomery County Public Schools assisting in the education of special needs children. She remained there for twenty years as an exceptional teacher’s aide, winning the hearts and minds of many parents and children who welcomed her very special kind of love.
Joan, an avowed child of God, saved by His Grace, enjoyed serving in the Ministry at Resurrection Baptist Church, always speaking of them very kindly, appreciating all the prayers and visits from the Pastor and other members. She courageously fought her illness for a long while. The family indeed thanks everyone who said a prayer, called her, or interacted with her on social media.
Joan went to forever rest in the bosom of Jesus on May 11, 2020. Preceding her in death were her son Jamie Hill , Calvin and Ada Crawford (parents), James Crawford (brother) Emma L Crawford Bright (sister), Victoria Crawford Hill (sister) and her Brother in law and Sister in Law (Russell and Loris Hill). She is survived by her loving husband James (Jake) Hill. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins!! Her nieces Holly Little and Linette Crawford were especially active in her care. We will certainly miss her easy smile, her encouraging words, her willingness to listen and her mere comforting presence.
