Jocelyn Ray Davis, a resident of Potomac, MD for over 50 years, passed away on April 19, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ray was born on August 19, 1943, to Beatrice ("Honey") Grant in New York and grew up in Baltimore, MD. While Ray was attending Douglass Senior High School in Baltimore, she and her family moved to Germany for several years. Ray completed high school in Germany at Kaiserslautern American High School, otherwise known as Rhine High School.
After high school, Ray and her family moved back to Baltimore. Several years later she met Walter Drake Davis, Sr. ("Drake"), who at the time was a work colleague of Ray's Uncle Bobby. Ray and Drake got married and had two sons, Walter Jr. ("Wally") and Duane
After a brief time living in Lanham, MD, they moved to Potomac, MD in 1974, where Ray lived for the remainder of her life.
Ray was a stay-at-home mom while her sons were very young, before re-entering the workforce. She eventually went to work at the AT&T store in White Flint Mall. Ray ultimately turned what started as a part time job at the phone store into a full-time management position at AT&T's corporate offices in Virginia.
Ray's kindness and good nature were truly special. That quality never left her, even when Alzheimer's was at its worst. She was quick to smile and easy to like. To know her was to like her, was to love her.
Ray was preceded in death by her mother Honey, sister Frances, brothers Sonny and Reggie, and son Duane. She is survived by her husband Drake, son Wally, daughter-in-law Kat, grandson Duane Jr., granddaughters Libby and Shelby, and many nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to a service for Ray at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 5450 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20816 on Tuesday, April 29 at 1:30 pm.
