Reverend Joseph Lee Trammel Sr., affectionately known as "Pastor Joe," passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024, at the age of 70, surrounded by his loving family. After a courageous battle with cancer, Pastor Joe leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and leadership as the senior pastor of Church of Christ in Boyds, MD. His life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the profound impact of a dedicated servant of God.
Born on October 22, 1953, in Purcellville, VA, Pastor Joe was the cherished son of Reverend John Trammel Sr. and Reverend Mary Lucille Trammel. He dedicated over four decades to his congregation and community, passionately preaching the Gospel and enriching the spiritual lives of many.
Pastor Joe balanced his pastoral duties with a successful career as a Field Engineer. He was known for his technical expertise, dedication to education, and remarkable ability to manage multiple responsibilities. His vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and boundless energy brought joy to all who knew him.
At home, Joe was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Married to Cynthia for 48 years, he was a loving father to their two sons, and a doting grandfather to their three grandchildren. He loved gardening, cooking, and spending quality time with his family. An adept handyman, he often fixed things around the house and took great pride in nurturing his garden, which brought joy and beauty to his home.
Throughout his life, Joe embodied compassion, humility, and an unwavering commitment, impacting everyone he met with his kindness and wisdom. His legacy is not merely one of words spoken from the pulpit but of actions that spoke loudly of his faith and love. His vibrant spirit, always full of energy and warmth, brought light and laughter to every room he entered. As we remember Joe, we celebrate a life splendidly lived and cherish the countless joyful memories he has left behind. His infectious laugh and boundless energy will be sorely missed, yet they continue to inspire us to live fully with love and kindness in our hearts.
Joe leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories, his wife, Cynthia Trammel; two children Joseph Trammel, Jr. of Bethesda, MD and Jonathan Trammel, Sr. (Erin) of Gaithersburg, MD; three grandchildren Jordyn Trammel, Lilliana Trammel and Jonathan Trammel, Jr.; one brother John Trammel, Jr. (Alice) of Silver Spring, MD; one sister Barbara Graves (Emmett) of Dickerson, MD and a host of aunts, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Church of Christ family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Larry Trammel and Clarence Trammel; two nephews Tyran Trammel and Christopher Trammel; one niece Yolanda Trammel and many other family members.
Pastor Joe’s life’s story is a profound testament to the impact one individual can have through a blend of faith, love, and dedicated service, leaving an indelible mark on his family, friends, and community.
