Kenneth Jones Obituary

Kenneth Edward Jones was born in Takoma Park, Maryland on July 18, 1930, to the late parents Wallace Emery Jones and Marjorie Dawes Jones. He grew up and was a longtime resident of Takoma Park, Maryland. On January 10, 2025, at Holy Cross hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland, Kenneth peacefully entered eternal glory and rested with his Lord and Savior.

Kenneth’s life spanned some of the most historic years in modern America. He sought better positions for himself over his work life. By the mid-1960, Kenny was on a similar path of mobility as his parents; securing employment as one of the first African American Police Officer with the City of Takoma Park and then later joining the ranks of the Washington Suburban Sanitation Commission from which he retired after working there for numerous years. started his professional career as supervisor at the Washington Sanitation for the City of Takoma Park.

Kenneth was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was a generous and genuine man who always put his family and friends first. Kenneth was pleasant and fun to be around. He was a man who had a heart bigger than his whole being and expressed his love for life and people through his actions.

Kenneth enjoyed spending time at the casino and racetrack where he found joy in the thrill of the games and the camaraderie of his fellow players. He always brought fun and laughter wherever he went. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered as a loyal friend, and a truly remarkable man.

Kenneth is survived by his loving lifelong companion of 50 years, Dianne Jackson, who without a doubt, looked after and took great care of Kenny for decades. Also, survived by two of his sons Kenneth (Ricky) Jones, Scott Sheldon Thomas (Cathy), his daughters Vanetta (Calvin), Pamela Richardson (Lennie), Eight grandchildren, Brittany, Jayln, Jalise, Donovan, Silas, Lyree, Twantius, and Calandrea, five great grandchildren, along with eighteen nieces many cousins including his favorite cousin Roland Dawes, extended family members and a host of friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his loving parents, beloved brother Ralph Wallace Jones, sisters Josephine Elizabeth (Jo) Chapman and youngest sibling Gwendolyn.

Kenneth leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

To be loved by him was a true blessing and today he would certainly have shed a few tears to see how many of his family and friends are here to celebrate his wonderful life. He was a pillar of strength and support for all of us, and his love and guidance will never be forgotten.
