Kevin Leonard Mitchell was born on the 9th of October in 1953 in Washington D.C. to Thomas and Annette Mitchell. He grew up in Northwest, where he attended Nativity Catholic School to finish primary and intermediate after transferring from St. Gabriel’s. Kevin then attended St. John’s College High School, where he became a Sergeant First Class in their Military Cadet Program, ran track, and played both football and basketball before graduating in 1972.

Kevin attended Boston College from 1972-73 where he made many friends, but then transferred to Bowie State University, where he continued his sportsmanship with both basketball and football. He was recognized in 2019 for his exceptional contributions to BSU’s football team with his induction into their Sports Hall of Fame. Kevin graduated BSU with his Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1974.

Mr. Mitchell worked for CSE, then for Geico Insurance company until retirement as a Claims Adjustor. There he served as a mentor to many coworkers and peers. Kevin was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders (previously Washington Redskins) and loved to play golf whenever possible. Also, he had a great heart for service, and was a Big Brother in the Big Brother Big Sister of America Program.
