Linda Doreen Davis Jones was born on October 27, 1953, to Wilfred Sr. and Lillian Davis (Sharps) in Cheverly, MD. The second of five children, she grew up first in SE Washington and then in NW Washington, DC. The family attended Saint Jerome Catholic Church in Hyattsville, MD. As a young child, Linda attended John Toliver E.S., Whittier E. S., and Paul Jr. H.S. She later graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School in 1973. Linda remained an active Coolidge “Colts” alumnus, attending football games, participating in fundraisers, and always wearing orange and grey to every event.
Linda throughout her younger years worked in retail and then accepted a position at Children’s Hospital as a cashier. She loved this position primarily because it allowed her to interact with people. It was at there that she met the love of her life, George H. Jones, Jr. and they were inseparable for over 41 years. They lived on Georgia Avenue in NW Washington, DC and then later moved to Wheaton, Maryland. The family eventually moved to Rockville, Maryland where they continued to raise their four sons.
Linda worked for Montgomery County Public Schools for over 20 years. She worked as a bus driver and later in the classroom as a paraeducator. This was where she discovered her passion to work with children with special needs. She remained at Carl Sandberg Learning Center until her retirement.
Once retired, Linda filled her days volunteering, actively taking part in her alumni association, and raising the apple of her eye, her grandson Samuel. Linda never met a stranger and connected with everyone she met. She impacted numerous children during her career. Linda remained in contact with many of these children over the years.
Linda’s sons were her greatest pride and joy, and she made sure that everyone knew about them. Linda was their biggest cheerleader and took every opportunity to share their accomplishments. She knew that food was her love language, and she loved cooking for everyone. Linda could always be found in the kitchen whipping up something good to eat. Being hungry in her presence was never a possibility. Linda was also very stylish and always looked good in the latest hairstyles and outfits.
Linda passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024. She is preceded in death by her father, Wilfred Sr, sister, Gloria Marie Thompson and mother, Lillian Marie Davis.
