Maceo “Bobby” Miles
May 13, 1934 - May 28, 2021
Maceo “Bobby” Marcell Miles was born in Daisy, MD in 1934, to the late Benjamin Lyles and Nettie Miles. He departed his life at his residence at Kensington Park Senior Living, Kensington MD on Friday, May 28, 2021. He was 87 years young. He graduated from Harriett Tubman High School, in Simpsonville, MD in 1952. After high school he joined the U.S. Army, and went to basic training At Fort Gordon in Georgia. He served as a PFC from 1955-1957 and had the opportunity to travel to Germany and France. When he returned to the states, he was stationed in San Francisco, CA and studied to be a med-tech.
After the service, he returned to Howard County where he married Barbara Riggs and they had four children, Andre, Jeffery, Valerie and Daphne, and accepted the role of step-father to Larry Riggs and Regina Riggs. Maceo worked for the Montgomery County Department of Transportation for over 30 years and retired as a Work Force Supervisor in 1988. In retirement, Maceo liked to take trips to Atlantic City and the Pocono Mountains with his life partner of 43 years, Allene Pearl Thomas. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching sports on TV. He was a devoted member of Mt. Gregory United Methodist and read scriptures daily.
Shortly after the passing of his partner, Allene, Maceo moved to the home of his daughter Valerie. In December 2020, he moved to Kensington Park Senior Living in with slight hesitation, however, to everyone’s delight, he met new friends, partaking in activities and was grateful for the opportunity to live in a senior safe community. “Bobby” made quite an impression in just a short period of time at Kensington Park. Residents spoke fondly of his polite and friendly nature.
Maceo was predeceased by his parents and sister, Helena Gaither, ex-wife Barbara Riggs Miles, sons, Jeffery Nelson Miles and Andre Marcell Miles and step-son, Larry Cornell Riggs and father figure Cornelius Whiting. Maceo leaves to mourn his passing, his daughters, Valerie Miles and Daphne Miles, step-daughter Regina Riggs; grandsons, Zachary and Jason Riggs; great-grandchildren, Jayla and Jason Jr., devoted sisters-in-law Juanita Dixon and Joanne Budd.
