Maria Riza R. Angeles

Maria Riza R. Angeles was born on December 30, 1956 in the Philippines and passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. Maria was a resident of Rockville, Maryland. She will be missed by family and friends alike.

Maria was the fifth of eight children. Her parents were, Judge Domingo and Aurora who was a second grade public school teacher. She was one of five sisters with three brothers. She was called Ichie and Auntie Ichie by family, Riza by her schoolmates in the Philippines, and Maria by her friends and colleagues in the United States. Her name was derived from the Philippine’s National Hero, Jose Rizal.

Maria graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She arrived in Maryland in 1981 at 24 years young. Her initial job was as a registered nurse at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. She later moved to an Eye Center in Maryland where she worked for a few years. Maria further her career by taking a position at Endoscopic Surgical Center of Maryland in Silver Spring for a short time. Finally, Maria’s last job was at the Veteran Administration Hospital in Washington, DC before her premature retirement in 2014. Maria had her share of health issues.
