Marvin was born on October 2, 1957, to the late Marvin Ellsworth, Sr and Ernestine Awkward. He departed this earthly life on August 16, 2026, at Adventist Healthcare Shady Grove Medical Center.

Marvin spent his early years in Sandy Spring, Maryland and later moved to Wheaton, Maryland. He was educated in the Montgomery County, Maryland Public School system and graduated from Wheaton High School.

Marvin loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. His Aunt Emma recalls how he used to spend time playing music at her home and she would prepare one of his favorite dishes, liver and onions. His sister Tootie, affectionately called him “Heavy” during their conversations as they talked about special memories. Marvin shared good times with his sister Janie and her family and enjoyed her cookouts. He kept in touch with Pat and his brothers Kevin and Trae to see how they were doing. He was concerned about everyone and would help when needed. He loved to search family history in order to find additional information on his ancestors.

Marvin worked at Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission where he formed some lasting friendships. He enjoyed visiting them and talking about old times. He later worked at Rockville Fuel and Feed and LaFarge Concrete where he retired early due to his disability.

Marvin loved music and was a DJ for many years. He started with Donny Young and eventually formed his own business. He specialized in old school music and played at numerous events including weddings, cabarets, family reunions, birthday parties, cookouts or whatever the occasion. If he was given a playlist, he would never fail to accommodate the request. On one occasion, his music went so far back in time that he had family members in their 90’s dancing to the memories.

For many years, Marvin was a member of a special group of friends to include Lenny Brooks, Richard Lee, Perry Young and Mark Benjamin. The group sponsored numerous events annually where Marvin and Perry presented the music. They also planned and spent vacations across the US and abroad.

Everyone that knew Marvin, knew of his love for fishing and that he was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Marvin met the love of his life over twenty years ago, Delores Maxine Myers. They became inseparable and shared long lasting memories. They cared deeply for each other and traveled to many places before illness made it difficult. One of their favorite restaurants to visit was the “Duchess Daughter in Frederick, Md. Marvin suffered a debilitating stroke over three years ago and while he spent time in rehabilitation, he did not regain full strength and required extra care. Maxine was by his side constantly nurturing him, doctor visits, preparing meals, discussing the day’s events or just spending quiet time watching TV. He insisted that she get out more, however she was committed to be there for him. It was a great relationship and a testimony to true devotion. He loved Maxine’s family and spent a lot of time with them, as well.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Sr, and Ernestine along with his sister, Wendy, brother Jefferey and uncle, Larry Budd with whom he had a special relationship.

Marvin leaves to cherish his memories of his devoted life partner, Maxine Myers; his sisters, Marjorie Dorsey, Janie Payne (Harold, Jr.) Patricia Morgan; brothers, Kevin and Trae Awkward; aunts, Emma Budd and Barbara Lee and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
