Mary Jo Mountain Obituary

Mary Jo Mountain, 91, of Rockville, Maryland, passed away on October 10, 2025. She was at home and at peace, in the company of her loving husband, Raymond.

She was born on June 11, 1934, in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from The University of Akron and received a master’s degree in library science from Western Reserve University in 1958. She worked at the Cleveland Public Library in the Literature department.

In 1961 she married Dr Raymond Mountain. Together they raised three children and made a life in Rockville, MD. After seeing children Martha, Barbara, and David off to college and out into the world, she worked for many years as the registrar of Rockville High School.

Mary Jo was a dedicated choir member at St Mark Presbyterian Church. When she and Ray moved to Ingleside at King Farm she joined three singing groups, anchoring the alto section in each one.

Mary Jo was an avid gardener. Each fall, when she would divide her irises, she would gift them to friends and family. Irises that she originally grew grace gardens throughout the DMV.

She was a loving wife and mother, a doting grandmother, a stalwart community volunteer, and a dear friend to all who met her. She was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Mountain Belt, and is survived by her husband Ray, children Martha Mountain and David Mountain, and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for her on Saturday, November 1st at 11AM in the Chesapeake Room at Ingleside at King Farm. Flowers are wonderful - she loved them! As an alternative, please consider making a donation in her name to Interfaith Works of Montgomery County.  (https://www.iworksmc.org/
