Mary Juanita Claggett was born on February 19, 1935 and passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 18, 2020. She is the daughter of Eleanor Prather. Juanita was the youngest of three children.
She was educated in the Montgomery County Public School System. She dropped out of school in 1952 to begin raising her family. Eventually, she returned to school and got her diploma. She graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1975. Juanita enjoyed cooking and baking which led her to excel in the Food Industry. She worked in the kitchens of Martin Marietta and Marriott. Later she was employed by Shoppers Food Warehouse where she worked in the Deli and Bakery Departments.
After joining Goshen United Methodist Church (GUMC), Juanita became a member of the Goshen United Methodist Women. Later she was selected as an Honorary Member of the Goshen United Methodist Church Trustee Committee. Once retired she devoted much of her time working in the kitchen at GUMC. Bonnie King and Hannah Stewart were two of her closest kitchen buddies, and they departed this life prior to her.
Once her volunteering days at the church came to an end, she enjoyed staying home putting jigsaw puzzles together. She also got a big kick out of watching old Western TV shows such as Gunsmoke, Wanted Dead or Alive and Wagon Train to name a few. Juanita also loved and enjoyed going to the casinos. She always looked forward to the monthly casino bus trip with Rita Gassaway to Delaware or Pennsylvania.
Juanita was preceded in death by her mother Eleanor Prather and her brother Ernest Prather. She leaves to cherish her memory six loving children, daughters: Wandy Prather and Janet Claggett; sons: George Claggett, Sr. (Letetia), Thomas Claggett, Jr., Charles Claggett, Sr., and William Claggett (Lolita); one sister: Elsie Idella Jacobs; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
