Maud Ulanda Rhoden Obituary
Maud Ulanda Rhoden, affectionately known as “Mummy,” was born on November 13, 1943, in Jamaica, West Indies. She was the beloved daughter of the late Eugenia Campbell and James Rhoden and was the eldest of three children.
Mummy was educated in the Jamaican school system. Throughout her lifetime, she wore several hats working as seamstress , nanny, and housekeeper however, her true passion was being a talented seamstress. She also found joy in crocheting, completing word searches, and working on large puzzles in her earlier years, later transitioning to smaller ones in recent times.
Mummy’s faith journey deepened when she was re-baptized while attending Victory Church. This spiritual foundation provided her with strength, comfort, and purpose throughout the remainder of her life’s journey. She later began attending Church of the Redeemer in Gaithersburg, a place of worship that was closer to her home and more accessible as a non-driver.
Mummy was a hard worker whose strength, resilience, faith, and unwavering love for her family shone through in all she did. Her life was a true testament to hard work, dedication, and enduring love.
Mummy truly enjoyed the cruise trips she took during her time at the Church of the Redeemer. Those journeys brought her so much joy and created memories she cherished deeply. When I would pick her and the ladies up from the airport, the ride back to Gaithersburg was always filled with laughter and excitement. They would share stories of the delicious food they enjoyed and the wonderful time they had together, their faces still glowing from the experience. You could hear the happiness in their voices as they talked about it, already looking forward to the next year’s cruise.
A few other things that Mummy enjoyed were she loved listening to gospel and country music, especially the cherished old 8-track tapes and vinyl records. She also enjoyed watching television, with Perry Mason being her favorite show she could, and often did, watch it all day if given the chance. One of her favorite movies was Gone with the Wind. She also enjoyed watching shows that made her laugh something we all need.
For over 50 years, she found joy and comfort in collecting dolls, building a remarkable and cherished collection that reflected her warmth, creativity, and love for beauty in many forms. Each doll she gathered held a special place in her heart, representing not only her passion but also the care, and the simple joys that brought her happiness.
The past four years Mummy was blessed to have her devoted aide, Robin, by her side. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Robin for the exceptional care and kindness she showed to our beloved mother. From foot pedicures, word searches, to puzzles, their time together was filled with warmth, comfort, and joyful moments that were truly cherished by both.
Mummy leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted daughters, Yvette Prather, and Marlene Small; her devoted grandson, Earl F. Prather III; and her beloved brother, Charles Rhoden.
She is also fondly remembered by the extended families of Charles Rhoden Jr. (wife Kesheena Scott-Rhoden, daughter Allyanna Rhoden, and son Icon Rhoden). Arlene Tibby(husband Shem Tibby - Daughter Shaw Tibby and Son Shemar Tibby). Tanyshe Rhoden, and Vincent Rhoden, Jr. , cherished special friendships with Berel Rhoden, Blanche Small, Francis Webster, and Shirley Payne along with many other relatives and friends whose lives she touched during her lifetime.
Mummy has reunited in eternal peace with her loved ones who were waiting to welcome her home those who preceded her in death: her granddaughter, Kimesha Yvonne Dominique Curtis; her grandson, Kevin Bernard Hinnant Jr.; her brother, Vincent Rhoden; and her niece, Keisha Rhoden. She is also reunited with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
