Melvin Washington Obituary

Melvin G. Washington was born into this life on April 25, 1931, to Charles Washington and Gladys Washington. He entered into eternal life on October 04, 2020 at the age of 89.

He attended the Montgomery County Public Schools. He graduated from the historical Lincoln High School in Rockville, MD in 1949. After high school he enlisted in the U.S Army on January 27, 1953. He received an honorable discharge on December 29, 1954. He married Burnetta McDonald on October 05, 1953, and from this union they had one son, the late Derrick G. Washington.

Melvin worked for Monroe Ford for many years where he held multiple positions. He has always had a passion for cars and this job was a perfect fit for him. He excelled at Monroe and was respected by all of his peers. After a long career at Monroe he retired and begin a career with the Maryland Park and Planning. He worked in the Automotive Department and immediately brought his expertise from Monroe to the Park. He was the go-to man for all the mechanics for all the autoparts. His knowledge of cars was always on display at the park. After another outstanding career Mel retired from the Maryland Park and Planning.

Melvin was a humble, kind, and friendly gentlemen who was loved by all that met him. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was a big car enthusiast; he loved working on cars in spare time. He loved collecting watches, clocks, thrift store shopping, and estate sales. He was also a photographer in his spare time. Melvin would always show up at events with his camera ready to take pictures. He later became serious with his photography and started working various events whenever he was called upon. Mel loved the Knights of Columbus where he was an active member for years. He loved to go to the various conferences and events. He also was a photographer for many events for the Knights.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Burnetta Washington, his daughter­ in-law Juanita Washington, a host of nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Derrick G. Washington, his brothers , William E., Carroll M. Washington, and his sister Louise Diggins.
