Michael Shawn Fitzpatrick

As I sit here and try to pen a few words about my beloved son, the following song comes to mind, ‘My Way’. That was all Michael. He did it his way throughout his entire life.

For those of you who did not know Michael, aka Miguel, please meet Michael Shawn Fitzpatrick. He never liked his middle name…sorry Mike. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 12, 1970 to Willie Fitzpatrick & Jessie Reynolds Fitzpatrick. Sadly, we have lost our beloved son, brother and doting uncle. Mike carried unclehood around with the greatest of pride.

He received a dual major in Political Science and Spanish from St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. In efforts to perfect and master his skills in Spanish, he studied abroad in Madrid Spain. He also served in the US Navy. Michael had a flare for words and a deep quest for knowledge.

He was one of the most generous people I have known. He loved to give and to help others even if it meant a deep sacrifice for himself and was even willing to give another the shoes on his feet. Although he was my only son, I always referred to him as my ‘favorite’ son. He frequently replied, “Aww Ma, I am your only son.”

Even though he endured years of pain and physical suffering, he was strong and never gave up. He was a young man who left a lasting impression on all who met him.

He is survived by his 4 sisters--Angela, Lisa, Willetta (Steven Capelle) and Amanda, his nephews, Michael, Alex & Joel and his nieces, Anna & Sasha, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends. Michael was a presence and will be missed and never forgotten.

I thank God for my ‘favorite’ son whom I love dearly.

Michael's memorial service will be held sometime next year and his ashes will be scattered at sea.
