Nancy Gray Obituary

Nancy Arlene (McPherson) Gray

Nancy was born in Grayville, Illinois on January 9, 1940, and grew up in Washington, DC and Montgomery County.  She attended Montgomery Blair High School.

Nancy met Bill in church and were married in 1962.  They had four children in their 57 years together.  William Charles Gray, Jr. (fiancée Susan Hoffman), Thomas Allen Gray (wife Gemma), Jamey Boyd Gray (wife Monica) and Kathryn Marie Dwyer (husband Jeff).  Nancy had many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Nancy worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Ferdinand’s Restaurant in Wheaton and for a tax accountant.

She was very active in sports in her thirties and forties, especially enjoying pitching for her women’s slow-pitch softball team.  She was inducted into the Washington Metropolitan Slow Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1984. She coached her daughter’s softball and basketball recreation teams from 4th grade to 12th grade and touched the lives of many people in doing so.

When she was young, Nancy joined Job’s Daughters, a masonic organization for girls, and when Kathy was twelve, she introduced her to the organization.  They were both active for many years with this, traveling to many places with Bethel 33 of Rockville.  Many memories were made through these years.  Nancy was quite the jokester, and there was never a dull moment when she was around!

Nancy enjoyed fishing with Bill over the years and enjoyed their travel trailer and pontoon boat they had at a campground at Lake Anna, Virginia.  They enjoyed attending Southern Gospel concerts in Lancaster, PA with son Billy and his fiancée Susan.  We can’t decide if she enjoyed the concerts or the buffets more!

Nancy was very active in her church of 45 years, Francis Asbury UMC in Rockville and recently Millian Memorial UMC.

Bill and Nancy retired to Riderwood Retirement community in 2017.  After Bill died, Nancy still enjoyed the company of the love of her life, her toy poodle Georgie Girl!
